People with Obesity Don't See the Problem - Weight Management and Metabolic Disorders including weight loss programs and medical treatments and therap

People with Obesity Don't See the Problem - Weight Management and Metabolic Disorders including weight loss programs and medical treatments and therapies
Can you be fat and not know it? This study says you can. When a group of men and women were asked to report their weight and classify themselves as obese, normal weight, or underweight. Study subjects were also asked what weight would be considered obese for them. The study found overall an accurate reporting of weight, but that obese persons tended to overestimate the weight that they would consider themselves obese.

For persons with weight issues, denial is a big factor. They convince themselves "I don't really need to diet; I'm not that fat". What's significant is that individuals who fail to see their as a problem are not likely to do anything such as diet and/or exercise to correct it. Read on for more information.

Pine Nut Oil Boosts Appetite Suppressors Up To 60 Percent For 4 Hours
Here is another weight loss help. According to this study, pine nuts (Korean pine nuts) help suppress appetite. Apparently the pine nuts work on the body chemistry to supress appetite. For low-carbohydrate dieters, this could be good news. Pine nuts could be easily incorporated into a low-carbohydrate diet plan. Read on for more information on the appetite-suppressant effects of Korean pine nuts.

KVIA.com The El Paso News Leader - Over-the-counter version of prescription fat-blocking pill "approvable," company says
The prescription weight loss drug Xenical (orlistat) may become an over-the-counter weight loss product by next year. Xenical has been used for many years as an adjunct in weight loss. Xenical works to block the absorption of fat. A major side effect of Xenical is oily, fatty stools. By blocking the absorption of fat, a reduction in calories is achieved and, presumably, weight loss will occur. No other major side effects have been reported with this diet drug. RGJ.com: The link between food, mood

RGJ.com: The link between food, mood
This article describes how certain foods effect our mood. What we often term "comfort food" is largely carbohydrate. These carbohydrates increase serotonin levels in the brain and lift mood. Many of us who are veteran dieters know that we usually don't eat because we're hungry; we eat because we want to eat and feel better. There are apparently other connections between food and mood. Read on for more information on how diet effects mood.

High protein/low carbohydrate diet when pregnant leads to higher stress susceptibility in children

High protein/low carbohydrate diet when pregnant leads to higher stress susceptibility in children
This article describes a study suggesting that low-carbohydrate, high protein diets should be avoided during pregnancy. I am not here to give medical advice, though I have a health care background. I also learned to critique research studies in grad school. And I would tear this junk apart. This study of the effects of low-carbohydrate diets in pregnancy was intended to study the long-term effects on the baby. The study included 89 subjects!! Now that's a real representative sample, I tell you. These 89 subjects were born to women who had been advised to follow a high-protein diet as a treatment for pre-eclampsia (a complication of pregnancy). Researchers recently subjected this whole big group of 89 subjects to tests of stress, such as public speaking and mental math. Apparently the subjects stress hormone levels rose in proportion to the amount of meat the mother had consumed in late pregnancy. On this basis, they suggest that low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets should be avoided during pregnancy.
This report is truly bogus and for this study to be passed of as scientific research with integrity and credibility is unreal!! I can poke holes in it all day long!!
This study assumed that the subjects' ability to handle stress would be related to the rise in cortisol levels. This bogus study also defined stress as public speaking and mental math, assuming that all subjects would perceive this test as stressful. The study did not measure how the person handled or reacted to the stress, or if the researchers' "public speaking" and "mental math" tests were even perceived as stress by the subjects. And lastly, there was no control group at all used in this study!!
This is a great example of how "research" is being used to sway the public about low-carbohydrate diets and other issues as well. No scientist could draw ANY conclusion about high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets from this study. I feel fortunate that I can look at such studies with a critical eye, but how many are deceived by this junk? Read on for more detail about this study of low-carbohydrate diets - if you want a laugh, that is.

Think lean protein to lose weight - Orlando Sentinel : Health & Medicine

Think lean protein to lose weight - Orlando Sentinel : Health & Medicine
The backbone of low carbohydrate diets is protein. This article discusses a study that found that lean protein increases energy levels, and that dieters eating lean protein would consume about 20% less calories eating lean protein. So the low-carbohydrate dieter could eat 20% less calories but still feel full and have energy. This study was not advising going to Atkins or Protein Power, but for the dieter to incorporate increased amounts of lean chicken breast, etc. Read on for more information on how lean protein is a low-carbohydrate diet's best friend!

Why low-fat is not low-cal

Why low-fat is not low-cal
Nor low carb. Good article that explains why low-fat products are often not low-calorie. I've discussed this about low-fat before; many low-fat products enhance taste by adding sugars. Other diet food myths are presented as well. Using margarine instead of butter does nothing to help lose weight. Skim milk can help you lose weight by reducing fat (no replacing with sugars). If you're going low-fat or low-carbohydrate, it's important that the dieter be savvy in choosing packaged foods. Read on for more diet information.
